S3 Masterclass
In S3, all young people will take part in 2 masterclass programmes over the course of the year, on Monday afternoon. The first masterclass runs from June – December and the second runs January – June. All pupils must cover 8 curricular areas in Broad General Education within S3 and masterclasses allows this to happen in an innovative way of learning.

This masterclass is about learning how to participate in activities outdoors. Pupils will learn a variety of skills including:

Bike Maintenance Masterclass |
The bike maintenance masterclass is a class which teaches pupils skills in bike repair and maintenance. Pupils are taught how to diagnose a problem with a bike by carrying out safety checks, identifying the correct procedure to repair, then selecting and using bespoke bike tools in an appropriate manner. Pupils are also taught good practice in maintaining a bike and may have the opportunity to bring their own bike to school to carry out maintenance and repair tasks. Pupils are taught to identify the individual parts of a bike so that they can write clear and concise information in a log book which details the routine and non-routine repair tasks they have carried out. Pupils also have the opportunity to utilise the bikes based in school to develop their cycling skills. |

Spanish |
Pupils to learn basic greetings and forms of communication. Skills that backed up by their knowledge of French to enable them to make links with Spanish. Pupils to learn about the culture of Spain and Spanish- speaking nations |

Cosmetology |
In this master class you will carry out beauty treatments such as manicures, nail painting and face painting. You will also learn what is involved in looking after clients in a beauty salon and trying our new hairstyles on each other. |

Media |
Pupils will study film and television and learn about techniques used by directors to create meaning in their work. They will learn all about 'sitcoms' and then create their own short sitcom using the skills they have learned. Depending on rotation, they will either then create a Christmas advert or create short videos for the incoming S1s. |

Sports Coaching |
This is a fun course that teaches pupils to become leaders. Pupils will learn to plan and organise sporting sessions, gather the equipment needed and deliver the session to other pupils. Pupils will build their confidence, communication and teamwork skills and if successful will gain a sports award. The Leadership skills gained are recognised in Further Education and in employment. This course is a practical class with some writing. The focus is on leading sessions, not just playing sport or improving practical ability. |

Looking at baking process and styles through practical working. |

Classical Studies |
An in depth study of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, |

Musical Theatre |
Introduction to the core elements of musical theatre: acting, siinging and dancing. Students will develop performance skills through practical workshops, exploring a range of musical styles and theatrical techniques. |

Music Technology |
In introduction to the creative and technical aspects of music production. Students will learn to record, edit and mix audio using professional equipment and software. |

Gaelic |
Pupils will learn basic communication skills and study topics such as greetings, names and how to express their feelings/opinions. They will also learn about the history of Gaelic in Scotland and gain an understanding of Gaelic culture and its relevance in Scotland today. |

Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health |
The FAA Award in First Aid for Youth Mental Health qualification is suitable for anyone who actively connects with children and young people such as parents, carers, teachers, youth group leaders and young adults. The qualification has been designed with children and young people in mind covering areas such as depression, self harm, eating disorders and bullying and will provide the knowledge to recognise a range of mental health conditions, start a supportive conversation, and provide guidance to professional help. Learners will learn how to recognise and manage stress. Learners will learn about the first aid action plan for mental health and be able to put the plan in place. Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals, but will be able to identify when a young person may have a suspected mental health condition, offer reassurance and support, and know where they can go to get help. This qualification is regulated in the UK and awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA). |

Fashion and Textiles |
Pupils learn basic sewing/pattern, textile production and fashion illustration skills. Pupils are taught about historical and current fashion designers and their practices. They are also educated on sustainable fashion practices and the career opportunities within the fashion/manufacturing industries. |

Junior Forester Award |
The Junior Forester Award gives children and young people an insight into a career in Forestry as well as the practical ability to assist in woodland management in their schools and local communities. This new edition adds new activities and information to keep our guidance up to date. We hope to encourage generations of young people to understand their natural surroundings better and widen their career options as they grow into young adults. |

Stagecraft |
This is a production-oriented course involving the study and application of the process and skills utilized in the realization of theatrical scenery, props, and lighting. |
